Lihlu Fuentes

Lihlu was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and moved to Austin, Texas, with her family at two years old. As a native speaker, sharing her love for Spanish has always been at the center of her life and identity. (She’s also fluent in French and American Sign Language!)

Lihlu received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and French from Austin College. During her time there, she spent her time teaching, volunteering, and even had the opportunity to study abroad in France. During her time in Europe, Lihlu was able to visit 10 countries and grew to understand the uniqueness of different cultures. She believes learning a new language is a great way to connect with a bigger community, explore different cultures, and become more understanding of the people around you.

Lihlu has made teaching and working with children a part of her life since she was thirteen. From tutoring, teaching after school programs, teaching for the Montessori Academy of North Texas in Sherman, interning at the Grayson County Children’s Advocacy Center, and continuing with her home base at Mariposas, she has always found a way to orient herself towards helping children grow to be their best selves and giving back to her community.

Outside of the classroom, Lihlu enjoys spending time with nature, playing the guitar, baking for her friends and family, and finding new coffee shops in the area to visit!
