Flor is a native Spanish speaker from a suburb of Chicago,IL. She is a first generation Mexican-American who has spent her all of her childhood summers with her family in the small town of Matehuala in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Flor graduated with a degree in Bilingual Bicultural Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University in 2011. She has over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages. She has worked as a camp counselor, teacher’s assistant and a reading specialist. As a lead teacher, she’s worked with kindergarten, first and second grade students.
Along with welcoming and integrating diverse backgrounds and cultures in her lessons, she also shares her own cultural traditions & actively incorporates various teaching strategies in order to reach and connect with all learners.
When she isn’t in the classroom she enjoys spending time outdoors with her 3 year old son, husband and dogs. She loves to travel, hike, play soccer, practice yoga, read and cook.
Flor believes in being a lifelong learner and in the importance of creating a safe and respectful space for all to feel comfortable being their authentic selves. She understands learning a new language can be intimidating and takes an enthusiastic and welcoming approach in order to keep students motivated and confident in their learning.
