Our Mission

Mariposas strives to inspire children to speak Spanish by making learning fun and easy. Our focus is to teach creatively through innovative lessons that include real-life experiences, cultural activities, songs, games, movement, sign language, literature, art, and beyond.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a community between all Mariposas families and bridge them together with the local Latin communities. It is our goal to empower students by providing them with an understanding and respect of different cultures, giving them the tools to communicate peacefully and effectively thus planting the seed to create global citizens.

Mariposas Spanish School believes in the importance of supporting local business, community, a healthy environment and the continuing education of children and adults. Throughout our history and with the help of our Mariposas family, we are committed to supporting our local Austin organizations through donations. These businesses or groups are just a few of our local favorites committed to our beliefs.

Community Action & Support

We are proud to be deeply involved in our community both directly through our program and through supporting our schools. Over the last 25 years we have given, partnered, and donated to countless programs and non-profits. Gracias a todos for allowing us to participate in Austin and Latino communities in the ways we know best!

  • School Donations

    Mariposas frequently donates materials, swag, and supplementary music to affiliated schools for fundraisers. In the past we have supported Hyde Park Montessori, Covenant Presbyterian Preschool, and Austin Montessori School in their annual silent auction.

    Donated items are given at the discretion of Mariposas staff. To apply for a Mariposas donation please email us.

  • Dear Future

    Mariposas collaborates with Dear Future in their “pen pal” program that connects our students with students in rural villages of Peru. This allows them to learn about each other and expand their minds.

    Dear Future was formed to help children in extreme poverty attain quality and equitable education. The organization aids schools in Peru with materials and basic needs; which can be hard to achieve in certain areas.

  • The Helping Hands Project

    As part of Mariposas’ vision to give back to our community, Mariposas Spanish School teachers volunteered at Helping Hand Home offering Spanish classes to the children a few times a month. By doing so, we wanted to spread interest in our language and culture in hopes that this knowledge makes a difference in their lives.

  • Little Seed Library

    Participate in our newest venture for the community! In collaboration with Hyde Park Montessori School (HPM), Mariposas is now sponsoring a Little Seed Library in Hyde Park at HPM. It contains seeds and information about growing food for yourself and community.

    It works just like a Little Book Library- take a pack, leave a pack system. These “libraries” exist to encourage food sharing and gardening in communities and families.

  • Peace for Ukraine

    Our friends Outcrowd Studio in Kharkiv have been working with Spanish School Bus to design the future version of our Kid’s Spanish app.

    Spanish School Bus has donated 2K to support Out Crowd staff & their community.
