Yvette is a native Spanish speaker. She received her B.A. in Marketing and Spanish from UT Austin. Her studies at UT emphasized cross-cultural communications, Spanish literature, and language. She has lived and studied in Mexico where she continues to make yearly visits for family reunions and to expand her life education along with that of her students. Her most recent intensive studies were in Monterrey, Mexico where she attended CEM (Centro de Entrenamiento de Montessori) to receive her Montessori training. She has also taken two years of American Sign Language (ASL) of which she incorporates in all her classes to effectively teach Spanish.
Yvette has been teaching children since 1994. She has seen the results of early childhood language education and strongly believes in the importance of learning a second language during a young child’s sensitive periods. She fosters the language development of her students through a holistic linguistic education involving the mind, body, and spirit of each child. In order to capture each student’s learning needs, she uses various approaches to teaching through songs, props, visual aids, sign language, literature, hands-on projects and every day natural experiences. The structure of her curriculum allows each child to learn in a comfortable setting and gives each individual a strong framework on which they can grow and develop confidence in speaking and learning a foreign language.
Along with being the Director of Mariposas, a consultant, and Co-Founder/Education Director of Spanish School Bus app, Yvette is dedicated to evolving the program’s curriculum and learning materials while continuing to train and support her staff on a monthly basis. She is also a mother, wife, dancer, gardener, gymnast, massage therapist, Hyde Park Montessori Board Member and world traveler.
